The Clutch

Purpose

To test your ability to control the clutch appropriately.

Types of errors you can make

CDE - NCDE - SRDE

It is a critical driving error (CDE) and therefore the test will be terminated ahead of time if you for example:

Stall the engine in a situation where it causes obstruction to others.

You get allocated one non critical driving error (NCDE) if you for example:

Stall the engine
Ride the clutch excessively
Rest your foot on the clutch
Coast prior or during a turn

You get allocated one NCDE (and fail if you repreat this error six times) if you for example:

Stall the engine more than six times
Coast the clutch inappropriately on more than six occasions
If you epress the clutch to early before an intended gear change
If you depress the clutch to early during the process of bringing the car to a complete halt

TIP

Very common is clutch coasting prior or during a turning maneuver.  Another common error is the resting of the left foot on the clutch.  Slow the vehicle early enough down so that you have the appropriate speed and gear to negotiate the turn before you actually commence it.
