Gear Selection

Purpose

To test your ability to select and use the appropriate gear for the driving situation at hand.

Types of errors you can make

CDE - NCDE

It is a critical driving error (CDE) and therefore the test will be terminated ahead of time if you for example 

Select "reverse" or "park" in an automatic vehicle whilst traveling forward 

You get allocated one non critical driving error (NCDE) if you for example

Select an inappropriate gear for the situation
Coast in neutral
Select neutral whilst waiting to progress
(e.g. you wait for the traffic light to change to green in neutral)
Press the button when changing from a lower forward drive gear to a higher forward drive gear

TIP

Learn to listen to your engine.  Excessively loud Music and attentive driving are unfortunately mutual exclusive.
