Observation and Scanning Purpose To test your ability to scan and observe your driving environment Types of errors you can make CDE - NCDE _ SRDE It is a critical driving error (CDE) and therefore the test will be terminated ahead of time if you for example Fail to scan and observe at an uncontrolled intersection or level crossing
Fail to scan and observe at an controlled intersection (give-way, stop sign). Divert eyes from the direction of travel, including conducting the blind spot
Check in a manner that comprises the safety of the driving task
Fail to look to the rear when reversing
You get allocated one non critical driving error (NCDE) if you for exmple Fail to scan and observe all the road space ahead, to the sides and behind the vehicle
Fail to scan and observe primarily to the rear whilst the vehicle is being reversed
You get allocated one NCDE (and fail if you repeat this error six times) if you for example Do not conduct a blind spot check (shoulder check) whenever you make a significant lateral movement (e.g. lane change, moving off from the side or into the side of the road)
TIP Drive at the speed you are comfortable with. You will see more and react quicker when you are relaxed and comfy
